Happy Pagerwesi Holy Day
Wednesday, July 8, 2020.
Today, Wednesday Kliwon wuku Sinta, Hindus commemorate the Pagerwesi Day. This holy day has a very deep meaning to strengthen our fortress (pager) which is nothing but our awareness to be strong like iron (wesi) with a lamp of spiritual knowledge (vidya) that can reveal various darkness (avidya) and illusions (maya) which deceiving sentient beings.
How is that knowledge obtained?
In the Bhagavad Gita (4.34), Sri Krishna elaborates:
tad viddhi praṇipātena
upadekṣyanti te jñānaṁ
"Try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual teacher. Ask him with submission and devote himself to him. People who are aware of Himself can give you knowledge because they have seen the truth."
For this reason, the main implementation of Pagerwesi is to offer worship and service to the Hyang Pramesti Guru, so that he is pleased to give the gift of holy knowledge (vidya) as mentioned in the next verse of the Bhagavad Gita (4.35):
yaj jñātvā na punar moham
evaṁ yāsyasi pāṇḍava
yena bhūtāny aśeṣāṇi
drakṣyasy ātmany atho mayi
After gaining true knowledge from a person who is converted to Himself, you will never fall into this delusion, because with this knowledge you can see that all living things are nothing but the Almighty, or in other words, that they are mine.
Hari Om Tat Sat.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om.
